Denison College Fair set for Tuesday

An estimated 55 representatives from colleges and universities will be on hand from 2:30 -4 p.m. on Tuesday in the Denison High School Commons and cafeteria to help students and parents plan and prepare for college.

Carrie Boettger, lead counselor, says both in-state and out-of-state schools, large and small, will be represented, as well as junior colleges and military institutions. The annual College Fair offers vital information on subjects ranging from degree plans, specialty training and housing to scholarships, financial aid and student loans.

"Planning early is crucial...so parents and students can determine which colleges best meet their needs in plenty of time to meet enrollment guidelines," said Boettger. "We've asked our students to dress in their favorite college attire to help promote the event. We want this to be both informational and fun."

Boettger says the students will arrive at the fair armed with an assignment sheet on which they can list their five top college choices, alongside pertinent details such as student enrollment, tuition costs and admission requirements. According to Boettger, this will allow students and parents to go home and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each college as it relates to their particular needs and situations.

"Each year we try to improve on what we offer our college-bound students," said Boettger. "When our families come away from this college fair, they will have acquired a database from which to effectively work and plan. We hope all our students and parents can attend."
